Fifth Third
Savings Planner

The Savings Planner reimagines how customers prepare for life's biggest milestones by combining personalized planning with AI-powered guidance.

THE PROBLEM Major life events often come with financial uncertainty, making it difficult to know how much to save or where to begin.

The opportunity was to enhance the existing savings goals feature with a more guided and approachable planning experience.

MARKET RESEARCH Looking at how budgeting apps introduced AI revealed ways to help users plan ahead, anticipate costs, and make more informed financial decisions.

USER RESEARCH To understand how people approach saving for major life events, 8 interviews were conducted with a focus group: first-time parents.

From the interviews, three key themes emerged.

Lack of Cost Clarity

“We knew
daycare
would be expensive, but
not by how much.”
Trial-and-Error Spending

“We just bought things
as we
needed them.”
Unexpected Costs

“You can prepare as much
as you want, but you can’t truly know what will happen.”

USER JOURNEY MAPPINGResearch findings were applied to the user journey map to identify key moments of friction and opportunities to address these obstacles.
